The National Defence Academy (NDA), which is located at Khadakwasla near Pune, Maharashtra is the first tri-service academy in the world where cadets of three services (Army, Navy and Air Force) get training together before their pre-commissioning training in respective service academies. The recruitment of applicants to the NDA is done by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) by conducting the written exam followed by extensive interviews. After clearing all rounds in the interview, the final merit list is prepared and the selection is done after the medical process and document verification. Applicants to join the Air Force go through a Pilot Aptitude Battery Test.

Division of each topic with the level of difficulty and methods of preparing:-
1.Algebra:  if we look at the chart above it is clearly shows that algebra topic is very much important, so the first priority should be given to understand the concepts of Algebra, its basic properties etc.
2.Matrices and Determinates: Though weight age of this topic is less but still 7-8 questions are asked each year. For ex: Consider the following statements in respect of symmetric matrices A and B.
(A)AB is symmetric
(B)A2 + B2 are symmetric.

3.Trigonometry:  candidates who are preparing cannot ignore this topic because according to the chart it is the second most important which includes good percentage of questions each year. How to use the application of trigonometry should be learned.

4.Analytical Geometry of two and three dimensions:  If your basic concepts are clear about the equations and theorems then scoring in this topic is not that difficult.
5.Differential Calculus: The Best way is to know the formulae, theoretical knowledge of graphs & functions and have a calculus way to solve most of the graph problems e.g. finding the minimum value of a function, or trying to locate the roots of quadratic equations.

6.Integral Calculus and Differential Equations:  12 questions came from this topic in 2015 and on an average according to the analysis 8 -10 questions is expected this year from the area of curves, application of derivatives etc.

7.Vector Algebra: Important is scalar product of vectors and vectors product of vector.

8.Statistics and Probability: Many questions are asked level of them varies each year. Some questions are like:
Question: There are 4 letters and 4 directed envelopes. These 4 letters are randomly inserted into the 4 envelopes. What is the probability that the letters are inserted into the corresponding envelopes?

NDA Exam Pattern Analysis of Exam Pattern

NDA Exam I 2016: Analysis of Exam Pattern

Dear Candidates, if you are preparing for NDA written exam then knowing the pattern of the paper is very much important because working on each section in addition to saving the time is what matters the most in the examination hall where there is stress on mind to clear each section with good percentage which will open the doors for the second round. Now let’s discuss the exam pattern in detail.

The written exam consists of two papers:-
Where Mathematics   (CODE 01) consists of 300 marks and duration is 2.5 hours.
General ability   (CODE 02) consists of 600 marks and duration is 2.5 hours.
  • General ability is divided into two parts Part A English consist of 200 marks and Part B General knowledge of 400 marks.
  • Part B General Knowledge has six sections Physics (100 marks) Chemistry (60marks) General science (40marks) History, Freedom Movement (80 marks) Geography (80marks) Current Events (40 marks).

Things to know for NDA written exam pattern
The papers in all subjects will consist of objective type questions only.
The question papers of (test booklets) of Mathematics and Part ‘B’ of General Ability test will be set bilingually in Hindi as well English.
Candidates are not permitted to use calculators for answering objective type papers(Test booklets)
Negative marking exists in the NDA Examination.

NDA MARKING SCHEME CRITERIA

Mathematics contains 120 questions in which marks obtained for the correct answer will be 2.5 whereas for the incorrect answer is -.83.
General ability section contains 150 questions in which Part A English will have 50 and Part B General knowledge will have 100.
Candidates will get 4 marks each for the correct answer of English and -.133 for the incorrect one.
For General Knowledge also 4 mark each for the correct and -.133 for the incorrect answer.

On an average each subject or topic contains the question in exam however the percentage of question on each topic may fluctuate year by year so it is recommendable to work on each topic because clearing just two sections and ignoring other will not help to pass the written examination. Priorities can be set on the topics to make it strong at the first.
Hope the given information is useful for the preparation because this will not only help you to prepare but also tell you to focus on the each subject or topics. Be it any competitive exam it’s not easy to crack it until and unless candidates prepare with time fixation. Just practicing Mathematics formulae or gasping English rules will not help it has to be done in fixed time frame. Gone are days when people think that hard work will pay off just by marking the option as you need to be smart as well to know how much each section requires time. As you cannot be lucky every time because it contains negative marking too.
