Soldier rescued from Siachen Glacier extremely critical, next 24-48 hours crucial: Army hospital

NEW DELHI: The condition of the Army jawan, who was miraculously rescued from Siachen Glacier on Monday after six days, is extremely critical.
A health bulletin released by Army's Research and Referral(RR) hospital said that the next 24 to 48 hours will be crucial for Lance Naik Hanamanthappa.
"Lance Naik Hanamanthappa is currently comatose and continues to be in shock with low blood pressure," the first medical bulletin said.
Fortunately, the soldier has no cold exposure-related frostbite or bone injuries.
A team of experts from cardiology, neurology and general medicine are attending to the Army jawan.
In what was nothing short of a miracle, one of the 10 soldiers buried in the avalanche at the Sonam post in the Siachen glacier last Wednesday was found alive in the rescue operations at the 19,600-feet altitude on Monday.
The rescue efforts to locate the bodies of 10 soldiers buried in the Siachen glacier after an avalanche continued for the third day without much success with rough weather complicating the efforts.
Meanwhile, the Army on Friday released the names of the deceased soldiers from the Madras regiment and officials said that their families had been intimated about the tragedy.
“Chief of Army Staff General Dalbir Singh has ordered deployment of additional resources, including radars to reinforce rescue effort. The massive rescue operation continues at heights of approximately 20,000 feet,” a senior Army officer said.
Observing that bad weather is hindering progress of operations, he added, “Rescue teams are working at huge personal risk.”
Ten soldiers, one Junior Commissioned Office and nine soldiers, were buried in snow on Wednesday, when large blocks of ice fell on their camp caused by a major avalanche on the northern side of Siachen glacier.
On Thursday, heavy snow cutters, major equipment and a rescue dog had been pressed into use to clear and cut the ice blocks.
