NDA Exam 1 2016 : Analysis of Mathematics

NDA Exam I 2016: Analysis of Mathematics

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) organizes National Defence Academy & Naval Academy (NDA &NA) Examination. Through NDA Exam, candidates get admission to the courses at National Defence Academy and Naval Academy. UPSC organizes NDA Exam twice in a year, NDA Exam (I) mostly in the month of April, while NDA & NA (II) in the month of September. This year NDA Exam (I) 2016 will be held on 17th April 2016.
Here we are trying to give you the Analysis of Mathematics (Paper I) to understand the importance of the topics which will give you a clear idea to prepare for this subject in a better way.
Mathematics consists of 120 questions, total 300 marks and duration is two and half hours. The Paper will be objective in nature which will be available in both Hindi & English language.
Topic wise distribution of questions from the year 2007 to 2010

Algebra: 20, Matrices and Determinates: 8, Trigonometry: 12, Analytical Geometry of Two and Three Dimensions: 20, Differential Calculus: 12, Integral calculus and Differential Equations 26, Vector Algebra: 8, Statistics and Probability: 14

Division of each topic with the level of difficulty and methods of preparing:-
1.Algebra:  if we look at the chart above it is clearly shows that algebra topic is very much important, so the first priority should be given to understand the concepts of Algebra, its basic properties etc.
2.Matrices and Determinates: Though weight age of this topic is less but still 7-8 questions are asked each year. For ex: Consider the following statements in respect of symmetric matrices A and B.
(A)AB is symmetric
(B)A2 + B2 are symmetric.

3.Trigonometry:  candidates who are preparing cannot ignore this topic because according to the chart it is the second most important which includes good percentage of questions each year. How to use the application of trigonometry should be learned.

4.Analytical Geometry of two and three dimensions:  If your basic concepts are clear about the equations and theorems then scoring in this topic is not that difficult.
5.Differential Calculus: The Best way is to know the formulae, theoretical knowledge of graphs & functions and have a calculus way to solve most of the graph problems e.g. finding the minimum value of a function, or trying to locate the roots of quadratic equations.

6.Integral Calculus and Differential Equations:  12 questions came from this topic in 2015 and on an average according to the analysis 8 -10 questions is expected this year from the area of curves, application of derivatives etc.

7.Vector Algebra: Important is scalar product of vectors and vectors product of vector.

8.Statistics and Probability: Many questions are asked level of them varies each year. Some questions are like:
Question: There are 4 letters and 4 directed envelopes. These 4 letters are randomly inserted into the 4 envelopes. What is the probability that the letters are inserted into the corresponding envelopes?
(A)11/12
(B)23/24
(C)1/24
(D)None of the above.
